This not at all a new thing which is suddenly grabbing people’s attraction a lot now a days. The whole world knows about it but not everyone practically does it. The reason is that people think that they will not be able to earn from this. And even if they earn, it will not be a very good income. Both the things are not right practically..
To be honest, this is one of the best news money-wise for the people of the cities. Even while living in a city you can do farming. Actually you have got two farms in the city. The surprising thing is that even after knowing this, you do not know the value it carries. You have a garden as well as a terrace. You can do farming at both places while staying home.
You can do farming of vegetables, not of crops. The truth is also that you can earn from your vegetable crop every week or every fifteen days whereas in rural agricultural land crops take three to six months or some times once a year .
Now even at the government level, garden farming is being done in India. Vegetable farming is being done using the intercropping method in the Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Delhi. Intercropping means growing crops inside, that is, farming in the garden of your house instead of the field.
This method is going to make things even easier for vegetable farmers. They can do farming in the field as well and if they live in the city, they can grow crops in their garden there too. Yes, it is another thing that in garden farming, you can grow vegetables instead of crops and can earn a lot from it.
The truth is that if you do not have land for crop farming, then you can earn by growing vegetables. Vegetable farming can be done in a small space and your garden and your roof can give you amazing income in this work.
Do not consider this as an experiment. Rather know that if you start farming in the garden, then you farmers will not have to worry about more land for vegetables. You can earn a steady income by growing vegetables in your garden. Pumpkin-type vegetables such as bottle gourd, bitter gourd, ridge gourd, cowpea and pumpkin can be sown by making ridges in the land of your garden.
Garden farming is also being done in Sitapur Krishi Vigyan Kendra campus of Uttar Pradesh and various experiments are being done on it. Similarly, an ideal nursery has been established under National Horticulture in Acharya Narendra Dev Agricultural and Technology University campus in Narendra Nagar, Faizabad. Even bigger work is going on here. Apart from pigeon pea and wheat, many other types of crops are being cultivated here.
In the next post, we will tell you in detail how to do farming in the garden.
