One Pomegranate may save many

Pomegranate is just not a fruit, it is a fruit which very beneficial for health. That is why it is very popular in the market throughout the year. Therefore this is one of the most favorite cultivation among the farmers in India. Still there are some things the farmers need to keep in mind during pomegranate cultivation. If the things go right, it will be easy to earn good profits. Let us know how.

Most of pomegranate cultivation is done in Maharashtra.  After that come Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Karnataka and Gujarat. If we go ahead doing everything in the right direction while cultivating pomegranate, then the income can grow many fold. For this, we just have to keep some things in mind.

Local as well as global demand

People who cultivate pomegranate know that the demand for pomegranate is strong not only in the country but also abroad. The reason for this is its healthy nature. If seen, pomegranate can be grown in any kind of soil, but the best soil is considered to be loamy and sandy soil.

Cultivation in light soil

If we cultivate pomegranate in light soil, then the fruits of pomegranate are big and their color is bright. In the market, the pomegranate whose color looks more red is also liked more by the buyers and then they also buy it at high prices.

Fertilizer-seeds with the right climate

The right climate is vital for pomegranate cultivation. If the right soil and fertilizer-seeds are taken care of good along with the right climate, then an excellent yield of pomegranate can be expected. The most important phase during the cultivation of pomegranate is its flowering period. During this time, the plant has to be taken care of. If this is not done properly, then the flowers of pomegranate start falling. If the flowers fall, that might prove to be a huge loss of fruits.

This is the reason, for saving life of flowers in the flowering stage, the farmer has to use the right pesticide and proper fertilizer, so that the production of fruits does not get affected.

Use these fertilizers

When you see that flowers have started appearing on the pomegranate plants, start adding phosphorus, nitrogen, and potash in the amount of 61:12:00. This combo should be sprayed on the flowers on the pomegranate plants at the rate of 8 kg per hectare at an interval of one day for a month.

If flowers are seen in the pomegranate plant and then due to some disease they start falling, then 4 ml of Planofix should be mixed in 16 liters of water and sprayed. This spray will put an end to the problem of flower falling.

Do this when flowers & fruits appear

In this situation, you need to start spraying 1-1.5 grams of micro-nutrients per liter. Soluble NPK 00:52:34 should be given through drip irrigation at the rate of 8.5 kg per hectare three times at an interval of 7 days.

Protection against fungus

You can use Concor, COC50, Azozole and Bordeaux mixture to protect the pomegranate crop from fungus. You can use two fungicides at the time of flowering in the plant and can also do it at an interval of 15 days after flowering. Here, apart from fungicides related to copper, do not use any pesticide more than twice.

In falling leaves’ situation

If leaves are seen falling in pomegranate, then this should also be resolved at the right time. For this, you will have to use nutrients in the plant. It would be better to spray nutrients four times at an interval of fifteen days starting from twenty days after the leaves start falling.

Mix the micro-nutrient mixture with a pesticide or fungicide and spray it.

It contains mostly micronutrients such as Zn, B, Fe, Cu, Mn and Mo. Most of the secondary nutrients found in micronutrient mixture, are Ca, Mg, S and K. This is a special mixture which improves the quality of fruits and flowers and also enhances the taste. This mixture is specially used for all pomegranate varieties of Karnataka and Maharashtra.
