It certainly is a big deal. From India’s point of view before the BRICS Summit, Indian Army’s recent patrolling arrangement on Indo-China border may probably pester China and surprise America a little.
A new agreement has been reached between the two countries over patrolling patterns towards reducing tension on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) between India and China. This agreement can pave the way for the withdrawal of the armies of both the countries in the disputed areas. This agreement is going to be discussed in the upcoming bilateral talks between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
What is so special in the agreement?
The timing was pretty good. The agreement has been reached between India and China right before the conference of BRICS countries in Russia, due to which it is being considered a big agreement. Secondly, through this, a new patrolling arrangement has been prepared to settle the four year old border dispute, going on since the year 2020.
The resolution of the dispute between India-China, the two major powers of not only South Asia but also the world, will also have an impact on America.
Now Summit is the time
The top leaders of the world’s superpowers are gathering at the BRICS summit. Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be a part of this summit. Before the face-to-face meeting of these global leaders, the news of ‘something sweet’ has arrived.
According to India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, China and India have agreed on joint patrolling of their border i.e. the Line of Actual Control (LAC). This announcement is indeed a major achievement on the border dispute that has been going on since the year 2020.
Separate Kazan meet is expected
After the news, it is expected that Modi-Jinping’s meeting in the Russian city of Kazan can also take place separately apart from the summit. Although no official announcement has been made regarding this bilateral meet, it is believed that both the leaders will definitely talk about the ‘new’ global order and diplomatic efforts to resolve the neighbor-border dispute.
A question here expects its answer – Through what lens is the superpower America going to see the near India-China friendship?
Relief indeed for both the neighbors
Both China and India have their own reasons behind peacefully stabilizing their official position on the border they share. For India, peace on the LAC will enable India to focus on important issues like its economic development and regional security concerns. For China, the resolution of the border dispute will give it the ease of existing in the big market in India being India’s friendly neighboring country. China will also get an additional benefit from this on a front where it is facing increasing competition from America at the global level. Now it can get an opportunity to move forward as a neighbor with the world’s second ‘largest’ superpower India in South Asia.
