Who is friends with death here..today if it’s my turn, tomorrow it is yours!
Saudi Arabia: Saudi Arabia is in news again for giving death penalty, before this also Modi government had saved eight Indians.
How much death penalty is necessary and how much it is not – this is a different matter. Different countries have different views on this. This is the reason why there is no provision of death penalty in every country, but it is not so in Muslim countries. The law of Muslim countries is governed by Sharia. According to Sharia, which gives the decision of eye for eye and blood for blood, death penalty is not wrong.
Death penalty is given in Saudi Arabia. Recently, the death penalty given in this country broke all the old records. In this country, more than a hundred foreign nationals have been given death penalty so far in just eleven months of this year i.e. 2024. Interestingly, the highest number of those sentenced are Pakistani citizens. Apart from this, citizens of many other countries have also been given death penalty.
Old record of death penalty broken
This year, Saudi Arabia has given death penalty to more than a hundred criminals who are from outside. Such a huge increase in the number of death penalty given to foreign citizens in Saudi Arabia has never been seen before.
The Saudi Press Agency says that this is necessary. Two days ago on Saturday, November 17, a criminal was sentenced to death in the southwestern region of Najran. This criminal was a citizen of Yemen. This Yemeni citizen was guilty of drug smuggling in Saudi Arabia.
According to the figures presented by the government media report on this subject, the number of foreigners killed by death penalty in the year 2024 till now i.e. in eleven months has reached 101. AFP report shows that this number of 101 is about three times more than the figures of the year 2023 and 2022. In other words, for the last two years, about thirty-four foreigners have been sentenced to death here every year.
Broke the old and made a new record
There is a human rights organization named ESOHR which is located in Berlin and is known as the European-Saudi Human Rights Organization. This organization says that this year’s punishments have already broken the record. There is still one month and ten days left. Let’s see in these forty days
How many will die and how many will survive in this country.
A gentleman named Taha al-Hajji is the legal director of this organization. Hajji says, “This is the largest number of death sentences given to foreigners in a year. Never before in this country have 100 foreigners been hanged in a year.”
Saudi Arabia has to face a lot of criticism for its legal use of the death penalty. It is criticized all over the world. But it does not care. Human rights groups also condemn this and say that this country is not concerned about keeping its image right. Neither does it care about the tourists coming to its country nor does it show any leniency in this work to welcome its foreign investors.
One of the 3 countries with the highest number of death penalties
On this law of death penalty of Saudi Arabia, a country enjoying the income from oil, Amnesty International says that last year in 2023, after China and Iran, it was the third country in the world which has made a record of hanging the highest number of prisoners.
This time in September, three months before the end of the year, according to AFP, Saudi Arabia has set a new record of hanging the highest number of prisoners in more than three decades. This figure has also gone up from its previous highest level of 196 in 2022 and 192 in 1995. The report shows that till a day before this year i.e. Sunday 17 November, Saudi Arabia has hanged a total of 274 people.
How many citizens of which countries were hanged
The foreigners who were hanged this year included 21 citizens from Pakistan, 20 from Yemen, 14 from Syria, 10 from Nigeria. Apart from this, nine prisoners from Egypt, eight from Jordan and seven from Ethiopia are included in this list. At the same time, three criminals each from Sudan, India and Afghanistan and one convict each from Sri Lanka, Eritrea and Philippines have written their names on the death sentence. Two years ago in the year 2022, Saudi Arabia ended the three-year ban on the execution of drug offenders and since then there has been a significant increase in the number of executions for drug-related criminals this year.
